History of the Department
The Department of Economics and Organization of Agricultural Farms continues the activity of the Department of Economics of Farms established in 1909 at the Faculty of Agriculture of the Society for Scientific Courses in Warsaw. It was one of the three oldest research and teaching facilities and constituted an important segment of the structure of the Higher School of Agriculture established in 1916, and then from 1918 of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences. The founder and first head of the Department was prof. dr hab. Stefan Moszczeński (1909-1946).
In the years 1946-1950, the Department of Economics of Rural Farms took the name of the Department of Agricultural Management and Organization, and until 1949 its head was doc. dr hab. Hanna Paszkowiczowa, associate of professor S. Moszczeństwa. In 1950, the Department of Agricultural Management and Organization was transformed into the Department of Economics of Socialist Agricultural Enterprises, which operated in this form until 1953. This year it took the name of the Department of Organization and Planning of Socialist Agricultural Enterprises. This name was used until 1958. The heads of the Department and then the Department in this period were:
- Prof. Ryszard Wielburski, MA (1949-1951)
- Prof. Anatol Brzoza (1951-1954)
From 1954 to 1973, the head of the Department was prof. dr hab. Dr.hcmulti Ryszard Manteuffel, who finally shaped the profile of the Department.
In the period from 1958 to the present day, the Cathedral changed its name three times. In the years 1958-1970 it operated under the name of the Department of Economics and Organization of Agricultural Farms, and in the years 1970-1991, in accordance with the trends of the time, as the Institute of Economics and Organization of Agricultural Farms. In 1991, the Department returned to the traditional name of the Department of Economics and Organization of Agricultural Farms. Several changes of the name of the Department did not cause any significant changes in the internal organization. It used to be a multi-site department, in which three departments operated most often. Despite the traditional name, the Department deals with the broadly understood economics as well as the organization and management of agribusiness enterprises.
