History
The establishment and development of the Department dates back to 1926, when prof. W. Grabski established the Social Agronomy Study at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences, under which candidates for agricultural advisors were prepared. On the initiative of prof. W. Grabski also established the Institute of Rural Sociology. In 1961, the Department of Theory and Organization of Out-of-School Agricultural Education was established at the Faculty of Economics and Agriculture of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences.
The heads of the Department of Theory and Organization of Extracurricular Agricultural Education were:
- from 01/01/1962 – 1 October 1963 doc. Witold Miśkiewicz – acting manager
- from 1.10. 1963 – November 15, 1966 Prof. dr Jan Bartecki – curator
- from 15. 11. 1966 – December 31, 1968 Prof. Dr. Leon Lewandowski – curator
- from 01/03/1969 – 1970 doc. dr hab. Czesław Maziarz – head of the Department
In 1970, the Department of Theory and Organization of Extra-curricular Agricultural Education and the Department of Pedagogy were incorporated into the newly established Institute of Agricultural Education (IOR).
In 1982 the Department of Sociology and Agricultural Consulting was separated from the IOR with two Teams:
- Team of Out-of-School Agricultural Education and Agricultural Advisory
- Rural and Agricultural Sociology Team.
The head of the Department and the Team of Extracurricular Education and Agricultural Advisory was doc. dr hab. Zygmunt Przychodzeń.
In 1996, an independent research and teaching unit was separated from the Department of Sociology and Agricultural Consulting under the name: Department of Agricultural Consulting, headed by prof. dr hab. Zygmunt Przychodzeń.
In 2000 The Department of Agricultural Advisory services was incorporated into the Department of Humanities, which until June 30, 2006. led by prof. dr hab. Zygmunt Przychodzeń.
Further expansion of the field of study Sociology resulted in the creation of a new faculty named: Faculty of Humanities, Warsaw University of Life Sciences. A new unit was separated from the existing Department of Humanities, which from January 1, 2007. adopted the name: Department of Economics of Education, Communication and Consulting with three departments: Department of Social Communication and Consulting, Department of Cultural Heritage and Rural Development, Department of Economics and Organization of Education and remained in the structure of the Faculty of Economics and Agriculture. Head of the Department since July 1, 2006. became dr hab. Krystyna Krzyżanowska – prof. SGGW.
